Searching the OCIANA Database
OCIANA allows searching on many different criteria:
Field |
Search Method |
Siglum |
You may search for an individual siglum (ie
HCH 8
) or for a group of sigla (for instance
AMJ
). To search for multiple sigla, you can use the format
HCH 8, C, AMJ
with sigla separated by a comma.
Important: the siglum search is case-sensitive!
|
Text searching (Transliterated Text and Translation) |
You can search these fields for any number of words, and choose to search either for all the words to be present ('All Words'), or for the exact sequence of words ('Phrase').
An 'all words' search for
cats and dogs
would match both 'Raining cats and dogs' and 'Raining dogs and cats' but would not match 'I have a dog.'
A 'phrase' search for
cats and dogs
would match 'Raining cats and dogs' but not 'Raining dogs and cats'.
This search is
not
case-sensitive.
|
Current Location, Registration Number, Old Record ID |
You can search these fields for any string of characters and the application will look for that string anywhere in the text of that field. It is
not
case-sensitive.
|
Filtering Criteria (Part of Speech, Script, Script Variant, Country, Region, Site, Subjects) |
These fields use combo boxes to let you find particular criteria, but they are not free-text. You can type in a few characters to help you locate the selection you want. Note that for subjects, you may choose any number of subject tags to search and it will match
any
of those tags. All others allow only a single selection.
|
Limiters (Genealogy, Generations, Prayers, Narratives) |
The checkbox fields allow you to limit your results to only those inscriptions that have been marked as including a prayer, narrative section, or genealogy. If filtering for genealogical records, you may also indicate how many generations of genealogy the inscription should contain. |
