TEXT Line 2. Abū l-Ḥasan: [ṯl]mh for ḫṯmh and hẓll rather than hẓll. TRANSLATION Line 2. Sima treats the second name in the double name as a lineage name. Thus, he translates 'of the family of N'; h- ẓll '(he) covered (the subterranean water-channel)'. Line 3. b- khl, Abū l-Ḥasan: 'in the month Khl'; Sima: 'by his abilities'. Line 4. b[ʿ]d, Sima: 'in the direction of'. DISCUSSION Macdonald 1992: 3–4, for ḫrf. Hidalgo-Chacón Díez 2014: 15–16, 20–22,, for the place names Bd[r] and Khl. Hidalgo-Chacón Díez 2016: 128, for the divine name Ḏġbt.
Commentary
Line 2. Note the relatively uncommon hẓll instead of the more common ʾẓll. The verb hẓll means "he performed the ẓll-ceremony", the exact nature of which we do not know. Usually, but not always, this verb is followed by the noun h-ẓll meaning "the ẓll-ceremony". Thus, hẓll and hẓll h-ẓll both mean "he performed the ẓll-ceremony".
