Translation
ʿyḏ son of {Zhlḥ} and his son ʾmḥh {performed} the {ẓll- ceremony} for Ḏġbt for the sake of his property in {Tqmm} and so favour him and his posterity and

Interpretation

TEXT Line 1. Stiehl followed by Sima, Al-Qudrah and Farès-Drappeau does not read the patronym zhlḥ. Line 2. Stiehl followed by Al-Qudrah and Farès-Drappeau: ʾlmh rather than ʾmḥh. Line 3. Stiehl followed by Al-Qudrah and Farès-Drappeau: b- t[ymm] rather than b- tqmm. TRANSLATION Line 2. ʾ{ẓ}lw h- ẓll, Stiehl: '(they) took care of the awning'; Al-Qudrah: '(they) constructed the awning ; Sima: '(they) covered the subterranean [water-channel]'; Farès-Drappeau: '(they) offered the sacrifice' Line 3. bʿd, Sima: 'in the direction of'; bʿd ml -hm, Farès-Drappeau: 'on behalf of their winter harvest'. Commentary
The break in the rock clearly predates the inscription since nothing is missing from the text. Note the verb (ʾ{ẓ}lw) is in the plural rather than the dual despite the two subjects.

Provenance
Al-ʿUḏayb (Jabal ʿIkmah). The inscription is incised amongst a mass of others on one side of the huge rock, which Stiehl (1971: 4) called ‘Block A’
