TRANSLATION Line 2. s¹lḥ, Altheim and Stiehl: '(he) prepared'; van den Branden: '(he) recovered'; Sima does not translate the word s¹lḥ. Line 2. ʾfy, Abū l-Ḥasan: '(he) offered'. Lines 2–3. ʾfy h- ẓll, Altheim and Stiehl: '(he) set up this awning'; van den Branden: '(he) renovated this cistern'; Stiehl: '(he) gave this awning'; Al-Qudrah: '(he) constructed this awning'; Sima: '(he) maintained the subterranean water-channel'; 'Farès-Drappeau: '(he) paid for this meat (of the female camel)'. Commentary
The inscription is in relief. Line 1. This is shorter than the inscriptions around it because it has been fitted into the space left by the last line of U 008, which must therefore be earlier than U 004. Line 3. The placing of the demonstrative ḏh after ḏġbt, rather than immediately after h- ẓll is at present unique and may have been an error (see Macdonald 2004: 526 §5.1.4).
