Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus: TEXT Line 1. Sima: fʾlh rather than fʾrh. Lines 2–3. Abū l-Ḥasan: ʾṭllt for ʾẓllt. TRANSLATION Lines 2–3. ʾẓllt, Sima: '(she) covered (the subterranean water-channel)'. DISCUSSION Hidalgo-Chacón Díez 2014: 15–16, for the place name Bdr.
Commentary: Line 1. There is no photograph available of this text and the reading is based on the Abū l-Ḥasan's copy (1997: 468, pl. 10) where occurs a r in fʾrh, cf. the r of the expression f rḍ -h in line 4. The shape of the letter l of lines 2 and 3 are very different. Lines 2–3. The verb ʾẓllt means "she performed the ẓll-ceremony", the exact nature of which we do not know. Usually, but not always, this verb is followed by the noun h-ẓll meaning "the ẓll-ceremony". Thus, ʾẓllt and ʾẓllt h-ẓll both mean "she performed the ẓll-ceremony". Line 4. This line is longer than those above it.
