Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus: TEXT Line 2. Abū l-Ḥasan: ʾṭllt for ʾẓllt. Line 3. Abū l-Ḥasan: [b- ḏ] at the end of this line rather than in line 4. TRANSLATION Line 2. ʾẓllt, Sima: '(she) covered (the subterranean water-channel)'. Line 3. [b-] khl, Abū l-Ḥasan: 'in the month Khl'; [b-] khl bʿd, Sima: 'by her abilities in the direction of'. Commentary: Line 2. The verb ʾẓllt means "she performed the ẓll-ceremony", the exact nature of which we do not know. Usually, but not always, this verb is followed by the noun h-ẓll meaning "the ẓll-ceremony". Thus, ʾẓllt and ʾẓllt h-ẓll both mean "she performed the ẓll-ceremony".
