Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus
TEXT Line 2. Abū l-Ḥasan: ʾṭlt rather than ʾẓlt. Line 3. Abū l-Ḥasan: ʾṭll for ʾẓll. Line 4. Sima thinks that the occurrence of ʾẓll instead of hẓll it may be a mason's mistake TRANSLATION Lines 2–4. ʾzlt l-ḏġbt ʾẓll ḏh, Sima: '(she) covered this subterranean water-channel for Ḏġbt'. Line 4. b- khl, Abū l-Ḥasan: 'in the month Khl'; Sima: 'by her abilities'. DISCUSSION Hidalgo-Chacón Díez 2014: 20–22, for the place name Khl. Hidalgo-Chacón Díez 2016: 128, for the divine name Ḏġbt.
Commentary
The use of ʾ- instead instead of h- as the definite article in line 4, is unlikely to be a mistake on the part of the carver, as suggested by Sima, but instead is probably an alternative form of the definite article, as in Safaitic, see Al-Jallad 2015: 16–17. Other examples can be found in AH 138 and JSLih 276.
