Interpretation
- Apparatus Criticus
- ZeGA 15: ----ʿm bn ġyrʾl s¹nt brḥ lgyn bṣry ktb "{By} ʿm son of Ġyrʾl [and he wrote this] in the year in which the army of Bṣra left Ktb [a village?]".
- Commentary
- There appears to be a small loop after the initial l which might be an ʿ although the technique of inscribing seems to be rather different from that of the other lines of the text. There is then a line which might be a l and then there is a hammer mark just before the m which might cover another letter. The letter read as the first s¹ is rather curved and the second one read as a s¹ is angular with one line shorter than the other. The final letter is more likely to be a l than a b. For the translation of {s¹}t{l} as "one by one" compare Arabic satala "to come out in a file", s¹atila "to follow (anyone)", istatala "to follow one another" (Hava 309).
