Interpretation
- Commentary
- This text contains a number of hapax legomena. (1) flg: compare with Classical Arabic falǧun 'a stream', 'rivulet', 'small river' (Lane, 2437b), which in the context of the Ḥarrah likely refers to a torrent bed; (2) ḥmʾt: compare with Classical Arabic ḥamʾatun 'fetid mud' or 'a certain plant of the Nejd' (Lane, 638c); the present context favors the former meaning; (3) nql: this form is attested for the first time here, but the feminine nqlt 'rocky ground' is previously attested (SafDict, 106a).
