- Commentary
- gt: The root √gtt is rare in Arabic, and is said to refer to the examination of a ram to determine if it is fat or not (Lisan, 543b). Based on this, and the word's syntax in the present inscription, I have opted for the translation 'pick of' or 'choice'. nḥr: This is a rare verb for slaughtering an animal (the usual verb in Safaitic is ḏbḥ), attested in Quran 108, and may imply a ritual sacrifice.
