- Commentary
- The fifth letter in this text is problematic and was read as ḍ by Winnett and, tentatively, as ḏ by Littmann. Neither produces a clear meaning. Moreover, both are forced to take the introductory preposition nm as meaning "to" or "from" for which we have no support in other Thamudic B texts. We have taken {ḍ/ḏ}ʾl as a place name, and ʾlh {ḍ/ḏ}ʾl as the name of the deity of the place.
