Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus
LP 1198: w ws¹n (s¹)(n)t XXIV "and he slept quietly in the year 24" for w w s¹nt [t]tṣ "ww the year of {Titus}"
Commentary
Littmann took the letters s¹ n as both part of the verb ws¹n and as the first two letters of s¹nt, and this together with his interpretation of t ṣ as the numbers 4 and 20 produce a very unconvincing reading. It is not clear to us what the w w signify and to produce our reading s¹nt ttṣ one would have to assume the assimilation of the t of s¹nt to the first t for ttṣ. The other problem is that elsewhere Titus is spelt with s¹.
