By Whblh son of S¹kr son of Khl of the tribe of Qmr and he pastured the sheep [in] the year of the war of the Yhd and he grieved for his father and for his brother and for [the] son of his paternal uncle who had died and despair for those who remain alive. So, O Lt [grant] security and booty

The text is carved in the unusual "rocking blade" technique which produces a zig-zag line, which can be seen when the photographs are closely examined.
