Interpretation
- Commentary
- ḏʾ{s¹}d: The apparent s¹ seems to be of a different style to the same letter later in the inscription. It seems that the upper horizontal line continues beneath the damage, forming a stem of the s¹. The name ḏʾs¹d has only previously been attested once, that being in C 3515 (=Wetz 231) where it iis perfectly clear, but this is one of the first copies of Safaitic inscriptions in 1858–59. It would in fact be a very strange name. It is possible here that the ḏ is a miscarving for the much more common hʾs¹d. It seems that the author of this inscription is the brother of BES20 57, each having a variation on the name ʾs¹d.
- Associated Signs
- The inscription has a line running horizontally through the centre of it. It is difficult to tell whether this is a form of erasure or is part of a cartouche of another inscription.
