Interpretation

Commentary
The author of this inscription seems to be the same as the author of AWS 285. The genealogy of AWS 285 is mty bn hʿwḏ bn yʿrb bn s¹lm. The third name reads differently on the stone of BES20 137. The name seems to be yʿlb, with the y represented by a slight thickening at one end of the letter. AWS 285 is only known from ʿAlūlū's tracing and would be the only attestation of the name yʿrb. In the tracing of AWS 285, the third letter of the name is slightly curved, but in BES20 137 it is clearly the straight line of a l. One would suggest that either the tracing of AWS 285 is incorrect or ʿAlūlū misread a slightly curved l as a r. w{g}m: The g is a peculiar shape and is not a complete circle. Nevertheless, wgm is the most likely reading here.
