Interpretation

Provenance: The inscription was rediscovered on 18/06/2021 by Ali Al-Manaser who provided more photographs and the GPS co-ordinates.

Associated Drawings: A large she-camel with a double-line girth in front of the hump and behind it but no sign of a saddle. There is a rider on the hump with what appears to be a very long camel guide-stick in his left hand (he is not holding it in a viable position for it to be a lance) and a short line in his right hand the top of which is damaged by an abrasion on the edge of the stone. He has a quiver on his back and a dagger at his waist. Behind him is a radīf, or a warrior riding pillion, also with a quiver and this time with a sword at his waist and holding a bow. Again there is no sign of a saddle or other means of support, From the rear girth hangs a water-bag. In front of the camel there are five very sketchily drawn men on foot, two at the top with enormous bows (one of whom may have a short dagger at his belt), two at the bottom with slightly smaller (but still quite large) bows which are right up against each other, and one man behind them with a dagger at his belt. Unfortunately, whatever he was holding has been destroyed by abrasion. The bows are all composite bows. (KRS 1597 d/1)
