Interpretation

Commentary
The stone bears three inscriptions, two of which are contained within a cartouche (BES20 261, 262). The end of BES20 261 seems to be a t, nevertheless the direction of BES20 262 makes the reading rather unclear. z{n}d: The second letter in the name of the author is longer than one would typically expect. Nevertheless, a reading of a n is more likely given that zld is previously unattested. ḥ{l}{y}n: The letters interpreted as l and y resemble an elongated ẓ. Upon close inspection of the photographs, however, the letters to not seem to be joined. Additionally, the shape of the ẓ in the final name has hooks at the end of the arms, whereas we see no such hooks here. b{n}: The straight line of a n seems to be partially visible at the bottom of the damage to the stone. {l}ẓt: The first letter is partially obscured by the same damage that covers the previous n. The letter could reasonably by a q, d, or l. A reading of l seems most likely.
