- Commentary
- It is clear that the verb which immediately follows the genealogy is bʿy (or possibly bgy), not rʿy as read in the editio princeps (b and r are clearly distinguished in this text), but we are unable to offer a satisfactory meaning for it. However, the syntax suggests that it is something that the ʾl Hwlt did to the author. For s¹nt f {s¹}{n}t compare the more common ʿm f ʿm "year after year". In the first prayer we have taken {b-} -h as referring to the bʿy of the l Ḥwlt and w ḫrṣ bʾs¹ w ḫr as a circumstance clause (see Al-Jallad 2015: 193–194).
