Interpretation

Commentary
Unfortunately, the only available copy (Al-Ṣuwayrikī [Al-Sweerky] 1999: 214) stops at the end of the genealogy (kn) with two further letters w q, which are not included in Al-Ṣuwayrikī's reading (1999: 40). It is therefore impossible to check the accuracy of the reading. ʾl-ʾs¹d is the constellation Leo which marked the transition from the early summer, s¹ayf, when there could still be good herbage and even occasional rain, to the dry season qyẓ (see Al-Jallad 2014: 216, and the table at the end of the Appendix; note that in the Appendix this inscription is mistakenly called "RSIS 80" rather than "SSWS 80").
