Translation
By Ẓnʾl son of ʾbʾns¹ son of Ẓnʾl of the tribe of S¹ʿdʾl and he served in a military unit and he heard that his grandfather

Interpretation

Commentary
NB the statement is written with the letters on their sides above the genealogy. The end of the text is obscured on the photograph by the photo number. NB Trimingham 1979: 143 "sammāʿ" ("hearers") was the Manichaean technical term for the novices as opposed to ṣidd¡qºn the initiates.
