Interpretation
- Commentary
The script of this text can be equally interpreted as Safaitic, variant 1, or Thamudic B, underscoring the blurry boundary between these writing traditions. In the desert, the funerary monument is usually called nfs¹t, which now seems likely to refer to a structure, possibly a small cairn, but certainly not an inscribed object (Al-Jallad 2022a: 33-37). This contrasts with the term nfs¹, which must refer to the an inscribed memorial stone bearing the name of the deceased.
