Interpretation

Commentary
The word ms¹rt can mean either "a camp" or a "military unit". For ʿzy as "companies of men" compare Classical Arabic ʿizan pl. of ʿizah "party of men who league together to defend one another" (Lane 2039a). If h-ʿzy is taken as the name of the goddess Al-ʿUzzā it is difficult to see what would be meant by "free ʾl ʿwḏ from Al-ʿUzzā".
