The name is a compound theophoric name. Nb can be read as Nabû, the Babylonian god of scribes and wisdom, but as it is in construct with ʾl, it clearly betrays that it is the name of a West Semitic speaker. Such names may attest to the Safaitic nomads' inheritance of Babylonian lore at a certain point in time (likely as inherited from Thamudic B), but it is unlikely that the bearer of the name would have understood the etymology of the name.
