Interpretation

Commentary

ywyṯʿ: the etymology of this name is unclear. It is tempting to connect it to יְהוֹשֻׁעַ‎‎ "Joshua". In this case, the first element yw would reflect yəhō, the abbreviated form of the Jewish divine name Yahweh, with the loss of the h. The second element would be a local calque יָשַׁע yāšaʿ, 'to save', as Arabian yṯʿ, a common element in Arabian theophoric names.

yqr: this verb is usually written wqr, but this attestation reflects the shift of w > y in initial position, as in Taymanitic and Northwest Semitic (Prioletta 2018b: 60-61).
