Interpretation

Commentary

We have a number of inscriptions by members of this author's family. Thus, ASWS 328 is by his father and ASWS 329 by an uncle (note that the penultimate name in the genealogy in these two texts was miscopied as "ntn" rather than "nl"). BES20 425 is by this author's son and BES17 1988 and RWQ 332 by more distant relatives. Al-Jallad and Jaworska 2019: 76 suggest that ʿyrt can sometimes be a variant of ġyrt "abundance" or "blood money" and since the author is grieving for someone, the latter may be an appropriate translation here.
