Interpretation

Commentary
The inscription is rather confusing as it seems to form a continuous line with BES20 1197. Nevertheless, the short line next to the lām auctoris of BES20 1197 has been read as the lām auctoris of this inscription (BES20 1198). The following letter resembles either a ẓ, b, or rounded s¹. This reading opts for s¹ given that it provides a more likely name (s¹wd). The letter directly next to the s¹ is a d, but this reading assumes that the next letter of the author’s name is actually the w below and to the left of the d. In this case, the writing curves around, forming the name s¹wd. Josef Bloomfield
