Interpretation

Commentary
Most of the letters seem to have been vandalised or joined together by the author. The vertical lines of the lām auctoris and adjacent q have been connected with horizontal lines at the top. Curved lines have been drawn on either side of the d, which makes it resemble a g with a central d shape. The first bn seem have to been connected to form what looks like a m with a central line. The same seems to have been done to the r of mrʾ. The name ẓnnʾl, whilst not fully visible in the photograph, does not seem to have been altered. Other inscriptions have been discovered at the same site by descendants of mrʾ bn ẓnnʾl (BES20 1405, 1407, 1409, 1411). Josef Bloomfield
