Interpretation
- Commentary
- The inscription seems to contain the first reference to the deity Hbl in Safaitic. Whilst there is no way to prove it, it seems likely that Hbl refers to the well-known pre-Islamic deity Hubal, the worship of whom Islamic tradition centres at the Meccan kaʿbah. Josef Bloomfield
