Interpretation

Commentary
The letters ḏʿr are clear on the stone, but could possibly be a mistake by the author. Given that the formula typically is formed of a variant of ʿwr l- ḏ yʿwr, the letters ḏ ʿ r read very much like a mistake by the author (i.e. he has accidentally written ḏ early and missed the w of ʿwr). Nevertheless, reading the word as ḏʿr is possible if the meaning is similar to the Arabiac ḏaʿara, to make someone terrified (Lane 965a). Josef Bloomfield
