Interpretation
- Commentary
- The first and third letter of the person on behalf the author is grieving are very unclear in the photographs. Additionally, there seems to be a circular area of damage over the first letter after ʿl-. The third letter in the verb read as wll appears to have a diagonal line protruding from it on one side, giving it the appearance of a h. It is possible that this shape is actually a separate letter n and therefore the very should be read as the 1st person plural 'we wailed'. Nevertheless, given that the final word is clearly 3rd person singular, it seems unlikely that the shape is a n. The reading here omits the shape and assumes it is damage. Josef Bloomfield
