Interpretation

Commentary

s¹wʿ: This anthroponym is rare in ANA, attested only once in Safaitic and once in Dadanitic so far. It corresponds to the Noahic idol in the Quran, suwāʿ(Q 71:23).

nyʾhtThis name is unattested in other epigraphic corpora. Its root and pattern are not clear but it could be related to the Aabic root nwʾ 'to rise with difficulty' (Lane, 2860), a term applied to the rain stars. The h, however, remains unexplained. It could be related to the so-called parasitic h, attested in Soqotri.
