Interpretation

Commentary

frd: This name is attested some 8 times in Safaitic and corresponds to the common Arabic name, Farīd.

bn: Given that the singular for son is attested clearly as br, it is more likely that this instance of bn attests the plural form *banī, cf. Classical Arabic banī 'sons of' but referring to tribal affiliation and Mehri ḥə-būn, benī (Johnstone 1987, 54), rather than an alternative form of the word for 'son'.

ṣy{h}m: The h is not entirely clear, but an uptick from the central area of the horizontal line is apparent. The name ṣhm is unattested, and so it is likely the outcome of the merger of * and *, being cognate with Safaitic ẓhm.

mynm: The meaning of this word is uncertain. It is separated from the primary text by a line to its right.
