Interpretation

Commentary

This is a bilingual inscription; for the Greek component, see NEJII Grk 2.

ʾfwh: The plural of the rare preposition f /fī/ 'in', translated in Greek with εἰς.

tḥllThis verb is translated in Greek as ἀπῆλθεν, leaving no doubt that its meaning is 'he departed'. It can be compared to the Classical Arabic taḥalḥala ʿan makānihī ‘he removed from his place’ … ‘and went away’ (Lane 621a). For the full commentary, see Al-Jallad and al-Manaser 2016.
