Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus

Hayajneh and Harahsheh 2025: The ed. pr. provides two interpretations. We favor the former --

1st translation variant:
By Whbn //
o, Bʿls¹mn, send/grant the abundance of your favors to
needy/indigent brothers (?).

2nd translation variant:
By Whbn //
o, Bʿls¹mn, send/grant the abundance of your favors to
our needy/indigent brother/brothers (?).

Commentary

ʾḫw -n: This is likely to be understood as the plural noun ʾḫw 'brothers' with the 1st common plural pronominal suffix, -n. However, a plural form ʾḫwn combined with the suffixed -n, could also yield the spelling attested here if there was no vowel intervening between the noun and the suffix.
