Interpretation

Commentary

nhmm: First plural of the prefix conjugation of a rather commonly occurring verbal form in Dhofari inscriptions. According to Al-Jallad it means 'to worry about' or 'to be mindful of' (2025: 33). Cf. also Jibbali/Shehret H1-stem verb اهمم 'to be concerned, to encourage someone to do something' (MLZ 964).

ḥdb: A personal name attested twice in Safaitic. A variant is attested as ḥwdb in KME 68-69.

nhdy: First plural person of verbal form derived from the root √hdy 'to give a present, to make an offering' in various Semitic varieties (Lane 3042; Johnstone 1981: 95; Johnstone 1987: 153). Alternatively, it is not impossible that this verbal form be derived from √hdʾ, in which case the meaning would be 'to pacify' (Lane 3042; Leslau 215).

ʾtmm: The exact sense of this word is unclear. The root is tmm 'to complete, perfect' but it is unclear if we are dealing with a substantive, an adverb, or a personal name.
