Interpretation

Commentary

ʿfyt: This term is found in Arabic and MSAL and means 'health, well-being, peace, safety, security' (Lane 2095; Johnstone 1981: 9; Johnstone 1987: 15). Given the lack of context, it could represent a personal name here. This inscription is part of the corpus documented by G.M.H. King and A. Al-Shahri. However, it was not included in the report of the Dhofar Epigraphic project (Al-Shahri & King 1993), nor was it assigned a siglum.

In this inscription, script 1a is used horizontally from left to right. Other instances of script 1a in a horizontal stance are KMJ 7, KMGH 11 and DhI 4.
