Commentary
In Classical Arabic ʿiǧl means "a calf ... both domestic and wild" (Lane 1964b). Lane says that when applied to a wild animal it is to what he calls "a bovine antelope", that is the Arabian oryx. Note that the male oryx is often referred to as a ṯr "bull" (as well as dṣy) in Safaitic.
