Interpretation

Commentary
The ḥ though badly made is not seriously in doubt. The text is “on a stone reused as a corbel” in the west room of the upper storey of House 13 in the southern aisle of the ancient village (personal communication from F. Villeneuve who discovered it). For the name see Safaitic and ʾʿytl in LPNab 35 and ΟΑΙΘΕΛΟΥ in Greek (PUAES III. A. 5 no 659 = Wadd 2286). Note that Dussaud & Macler 1903: no. 801 [= C 5157 and 5158] was also found on a corbel at Diyatheh. For Diyatheh, see Villeneuve & Sadler 2001.
