Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus: KnSS 1: w tẓr h-s¹my w ʿzt "he watched the sky and the evening star" for "he waited for the rains but they did not come" JaGQ 1.1:w tẓr html w ʿzt "and he was on the lookout for Html and ʿzt" for "he waited for the rains but they did not come"
Commentary: The word ʿzt is clearly a verb in the 3psf of the suffix conjugation and could either be related to Arabic ʿazza one of the many meanings of which is "it became unattainable" (Lane 2030c), or to Arabic ʿawiza "it was wanting, not found, not existing, was desired but not attainable" (Lane 2195c–2196a).
