Text Information

Siglum
AbaNS 398
Transliteration
l ʿmdn bn lḥy h- ʿr[n]
Translation
By ʿmdn son of Lḥy are the {two hybrids}

Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus
AbaNS 398: h- ʿr "this ass"
Commentary
This text runs across the end of AbaNS 397. The drawing shows 2 equids but there is no sign on the copy of a final -n on ʿr to indicate a dual, and it is possible that this should be restored. See Macdonald (in press, a) for the reasons for translating ʿ(y)r in Safaitic as a hybrid, that is a "mule" (the offspring of a male donkey x female horse) or a "hinny" (the offspring of a male horse x female donkey).
