Interpretation

Commentary
The upper parts of this genealogy are found in some other Safaitic inscriptions (see WH 121, 2690, HaNS 444, ZMMS 43) and this helps to illuminate some of the slightly confused parts of this text. We know from ZMMS 43 that it should be ʾʿzm bn frzl bn zʿkrt bn s²k bn gg, which shows that the extra n after the second bn is an error and that the penultimate name is s²k and so the additions to the b of the final bn are extraneous.

Associated Drawings
A male camel with an enormous hump with hairs sprouting from the top and a tail with an exaggeratedly large tuft at the end. It appears to have a collar at the top of the neck. Most of the body has been filled in except for the interior of the hump and a small area next to the tail. The left side and the bottom of the rock face have broken off and in the bottom right-hand corner next to the 7 lines is what could be the tail of a female camel the rest of which has been lost.
