Interpretation

Commentary

This is an atypical grieving text, expressing the author's sadness for his beloved with an unformulaic statement.

ʾḏThe temporal conditional /ʾiḏā/.

ḫbṯ: A verb meaning 'to ruin', but here we should understand it was a passive.

ʾmrCompare with Classical Arabic ʾamrun 'an affair, condition.'
