Interpretation

Commentary

This inscription presents a unique and elaborate prayer to Shayʿ ha-Qawm 'companion of the army' (s²ʿhqm) invoking him for his guidance and deliverance in death, presumably in battle. The invocation follows a camel sacrifice. On the cultural context of the inscription, see Al-Jallad 2022a: 18, 65, 98.

All vocabulary is discussed in SafDict, s.v. and Al-Jallad 2015a: 255, 307, 313, 318, 329.
