WH 80

Text Information

Siglum
WH 80
Transliteration
l s¹by bn drkt bn mʿly w ḫlb f h rḍy nqm
Translation
By S¹by son of Dkrt son of Mʿly and he was deceived so O Rḍy [grant] vengeance

Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus
WH: mʿll for mʿly; "O Rḍy, avenge [him]
Commentary
WH take "nqm" as an imperative verb "avenge!", but the absence of a pronominal suffix makes this interpretation unlikely. It is more likely a nominal direct object of a gapped verb (see Wright vol II, p.72). the third l of the inscription is clearly a y on the photograph.

Provenance
WH Cairn 2 and this inscription were rediscovered and photographed by the Badia Epigraphic Survey in 2018 and the co-ordinates given are exact.
