WH 1684

Text Information

Siglum
WH 1684
Transliteration
l r{s¹}ʾ bn mʿ{d}
Translation
By {Rs¹ʾ} son of {Mʿd}

Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus
WH: l {n}bh bn s¹ʿd for l r{s¹}ʾ bn mʿ{d}
Commentary
The inscription is roughly carved. However, on the photographs it can be seen that the second letter has a small hook at its base and is therefore almost certainly a r rather than a l (the lām auctoris has no hook). In the third letter the two lines come to a point suggesting that it is a s¹ rather than a b (compare the rounded b in bn). The upper fork of the ʾ crosses the z in WH 1683. The final letter has a small bulge halfway down the stem suggesting that it is a d.

Provenance
WH Cairn 21 and this inscription were rediscovered and photographed by the Badia Epigraphic Survey in 2018 and the co-ordinates given are exact.
