Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus
WH: "and he was extremely miserable, overshadowed (by grief)"
Commentary
The root ẓll can also mean 'to remain, to stay', which we feel better suits this context. Since the author has written bʾs¹ 'he grieved' three times, it seems that he wished to emphasize the fact that he was in a perpetual state of grief.
