Interpretation
- Commentary
The k is inscribed horizontally. The verb ʾdn is a passive of ʾadanna 'to debase', previously attested in grieving formulae (SafDict, 39). The ḥbb is attested as an anthroponym, it is possible to understand this section as grieving for an individual by that name; however, ḥbb is very often used in grieving and longing formulae, which indicates that it is probably to be understood as a substantive. The agreement of ḥbb and s¹by indicates an implied relative pronoun, which is invisible in Safaitic, leading to the interpretation: 'a beloved (who was) captured.'
