Interpretation
- Commentary
Although an uncommon construction, the final t could be understood as a demonstrative pronoun /tī/ ‘these’, rendering, ‘these camels of Ṭrq.' An alternative reading could be a transposition of the expression ṭaraqati l-ʾibilu, ‘the camels staled and dunged in the water,’ as recorded in Lane (1846a). However, one must take context into consideration. Since there are no water pools in close proximity to this inscription, such a reading would be anatopistic.
