Interpretation

Commentary
The author is the father of BES20 425 on the same stone. Compare with genealogies attested in ASWS 328 (ʾnʿm bn ys¹mʿl bn yṯʿt bn ntn bn ḥwrn) and AAWHA 122 (ḥyn bn ʾnʿm bn ys¹mʿl). It seems likely that ASWS 328 presents a misreading of the name ntn. In the sketch, the author seems to draw a t above the second letter. Nevertheless, in this inscription, there is clearly no t. A reading of nl is clear in this inscription, additionally a yṯʿt bn nl is attested in a number of other inscriptions (ZMMS 65; KRS 1917, 1919; C 1410). Note also that a yṯʿt bn ll bn ḥwrn is also attested (RWQ 332). Josef Bloomfield
