Interpretation

Commentary
The inscription begins using a hammered technique, but the lines become much thinner following the {ʿ} of {ʿs¹lm}. The first letter of the second name is hard to make sense of. There is a bn before the letter and what appears like a large ḥ, similar to the ḥ in ḥnn. Nevertheless, upon close inspection of the photographs, the right side of the shape seems to be separate to the left. The left seems to be a ʾ, with a very unclear fork at the top. The right side seems to be a V-shape, perhaps a s¹. Given that the name s¹ʾs¹lm would be unlikely, it seems that the author has made a mistake. A reading of ʾs¹lm as the paternal name would correspond with the genealogy in BES20 68 (ʾs¹lm bn nʿmt bn qflt). The end of the inscription is difficult to read on the stone. The last few letters are particularly difficult, but seem to read as h- dr. Josef Bloomfield
